communication through online Video games

online games have made it easier to communicate with friends.  the only thing you need to do is be able to have access to the internet. now people these days do not need to meet in person in order to have a fun time competing against one another. now people have the luxury of being in there own home and still have the enjoyment of playing video games. some system like the PS3 you only need a bluetooth headset.  Xbox360 they supply you with a headset if you purchase the system that you attented on using the internet. the good thing about this online communication is you arent wasting minutes on a phone and you are able to talk junk to a friend ALL for FUN!!!!

  1. Hi Bruce:
I enjoyed reading your post about communication through online video games. Two interesting points that you make are that the popularity of online games include the ease of internet access and playing as a form of engagement. Your comments are in alignment with what some researchers say are the beneficial features found with asynchronous communication. Specifically, Ellis(2001)maintains that "flexibility of access" and "convenience in time" are two important elements that promote student engagement in asynchronous online communication (p.171). Bender(2005)recommends that instructors have students "create and participate in role-playing scernios" to stimulate interest and promote e-learning (p.1).

  2. Although I am a strong believer of people actually interacting face to face; I tend to now agree that online gaming still fosters interaction especially when meeting/seeing people physically is impracticable. For instance my children here in the States can play with their friends in England and cousins in Nigeria.

  3. Hi Bruce,

I don't think that I have any past experience with seeing or using online video games. So, I am really curious to learn about them. I have had some experience with online simulations (i.e., using an electronic in-basket exercise) that are usually business based.

What would be really helpful is a link or two to some good sites where we newbees could "play."

    Looking forward to learning more.

  5. Bruce,
Over the past few years online gaming has seemed to become extremely popular. I think that being able to play against someone in another city, state or even country is amazing. I also believe the ability to do this helps online gamers who are looking to find better competition. The things that can happen now because of technology never fail to impress me.
